What Is the COIN App?
COIN is a free mobile app designed to allow users to contribute real-world data to XYO. When users explore the world, move around, or interact with the app, they help XYO validate information.
It works by capturing two types of data — passive and active.
Passive Data comes automatically from the sensors in your device — including movement, location, altitude, and environmental signals. This kind of data is generated simply by carrying your phone as you go about your day. Because it’s abundant and relatively low-effort to produce, passive data typically earns lower rewards.
Active Data is created through direct human input. This includes actions like answering survey questions, taking and uploading photos, interacting with educational content, or verifying something in your physical surroundings. Because active data requires intention, time, and effort, it tends to be more unique and higher in value. Each submission reflects an individual’s decision to contribute meaningfully, which makes it well-suited for training models, confirming real-world events, and supplying valuable human context to decentralized applications.
How Do Users Earn?
As users contribute both active and passive data, they earn $COIN, an in-app currency. $COIN can be accumulated through regular participation and then redeemed for a wide variety of real-world and digital rewards. These include:
